Thank you for helping to make birthdays for houseless children possible! Light the Way Birthdays is a non-profit 501 © (3) with the goal of celebrating houseless children on their birthdays. We know that childhood can be challenging sometimes; being houseless makes it even more difficult. Our purpose is to shine a light during dark times and bring our community together in celebration of children, letting them know they are not alone and that they matter.

We have split the budget into two groups: the first will be our budget during quarantine and the second will be when the quarantine is lifted. We plan on leveraging overall costs by cost sharing. We have partnered with a community member who owns a rock gym facility to alleviate the costs of securing a location once quarantine is lifted. We want to find creative ways to celebrate children while they are staying isolated due to the pandemic. This is what our projected budget is for two birthdays per month:

How to Set Up Donations Through Amazon Smile

Did you know you can raise funds for Light the Way Birthdays without spending a single extra penny? Amazon Smile is a program run by Amazon that donates a portion of the products you purchase to a charity of your choice. And you don’t have to purchase anything special! Just do your normal shopping and Amazon will take care of the rest.

Use your Amazon App

The easiest way to use Amazon Smile is to set it up on your Amazon App on your smart phone.

Step 1: Open up your Amazon Shopping app and click on the 3 horizontal lines at the bottom right of the screen.

Step 2: Click on “Settings” in the middle of the screen and then “Amazon Smile.”

Step 3: Choose “Light the Way Birthdays” in Dallas, Oregon as your charity and make sure your “Generating Donations” option is turned on.

And that’s it! Now whenever you shop using your Amazon app, a portion of the cost of eligible items you purchase will go towards providing birthday parties to houseless children.

Set up Amazon Smile on your Desktop Computer

Don’t have a smart phone, the Amazon Shopping app, or just prefer to use your desktop? Amazon has an option for that too! This method is just a few more steps

Step 1: Go to smile.amazon.com and login to your Amazon account if prompted.

Step 2: Once logged in, mouse over to the top left of your screen. Amazon will tell you which charity you’re currently supporting. If you’re not currently supporting a charity, you will still need to click on this to get started.

Step 3: Your current charity will be displayed on the right part of your screen. Click on “change charity.” If you’re not currently supporting a charity, follow Amazon’s prompts to do so and skip to step 4.

Step 4: Find the search bar that says “Or pick your own charitable organization,” type in “Light the Way Birthdays,” and hit “search.”

Step 5: “Light the Way Birthdays” should be the first option that comes up. Make sure you see “Childrens and Youth Services” below the name and “Dallas OR” on the right. Click “select.”

Step 6: You’re all done! You should be redirected back to your “Amazon Smile Impact” dashboard and you should see a message at the top that says “You have changed your charity to Light the Way Birthdays.”

Step 7: One last thing before you go! If you do your Amazon shopping on your computer, make sure to always type in “smile.amazon.com” before shopping. If you type in “amazon.com,” your charity of choice will not be supported through your purchases. The best way to do this is to create a bookmark for smile.amazon.com and put it front and center in your bookmarks bar so that you don’t have to remember to type it in each time.
